SEBATOPOL

Sebastopol is about a 20-minute drive from the Sonoma coast and Bodega Bay. The town is known for its liberal politics, green living, organic farming and small-town charm. It was once primarily a plum and apple growing region but vineyards are now prominent. Famous horticulturist Luther Burbank had gardens in this fertile region. The city hosts an annual Apple Blossom Festival each spring and the Gravenstein Apple Fair at harvest in the fall. The area is home to the wine appellation of Green Valley AVA, and part of the Russian River AVA and Coast AVA. Nearby is the quirky hamlet of Graton.

FREESTONE

The hamlet of Freestone is located west of Sebastopol proper. It was once a stop on the railroad that connected Cazadero to Sausalito. The area was part of the Rancho Cañada de Jonive established by James Black through a Mexican land grant from Governor Pío Pico in 1845.

GRATON

Roughly 20 miles from the coast, the hamlet of Graton marks the farthest of southeastern expansion for Russian colonization where farms and ranches were established to support Russian fur trading activities at Fort Ross. Graton is now a wine growing region and part of the Green Valley AVA. The small "town" is only one block, but boasts popular and trendy restaurants, wine tasting and an art gallery.
